Overview of ERISA Reporting & Disclosure for Welfare Plans

The Employee Retirement & Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) was enacted to protect the rights of participants and beneficiaries of employee benefit plans.  Keller assists our clients with the reporting and disclosure requirements for welfare plans, including group medical, dental, vision, life and disability coverage.

As plan sponsors, employers must disclose detailed information to participants through plan materials, including Summary Plan Descriptions and Summary Annual Reports.  In addition, employers/plan sponsors are required to submit an annual Form 5500 to the Department of Labor (DOL). Certain plans may be exempt from the Form 5500 requirement based upon size or funding arrangement.

As your broker, Keller prepares Form 5500 reports and publishes them  to a secure website for client review and filing transmission.  We then provide the corresponding Summary Annual Report to distribute to plan participants.  Keller also reviews welfare benefit plan documents for ERISA compliance.
