Overview of Medicare

Medicare is the government-sponsored health insurance program for people age 65 and older. Disabled people and individuals with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) may be eligible for Medicare prior to age 65.  Medicare includes several components, including hospital insurance (Part A) and medical insurance (Part B).  Supplemental coverage, such as Medicare Advantage (Part C), prescription drug coverage (Part D) and Medigap plans are sold by private vendors.  The cost of most Medicare components depends on the plan chosen and the individual’s income.

Keller assists our clients and their aging employees with Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) rules, COBRA issues and coverage choices once an employee turns age 65 and is still working, or at the employee’s retirement.  The enrollment options for the different Medicare components vary by size of employer and other available coverage.
