Over the pasts few years, thirteen localities in New Jersey have enacted their own ordinances requiring paid sick leave for employees working within their jurisdictions. This year, New Jersey enacted a state-wide paid sick leave law that preempts all local sick leave ordinances. Under the new law, employers must provide paid sick leave to all eligible employees working in NJ, even if there is only one. However, this should help streamline policies for employers with offices in more than one part of the state. The law goes into effect on October 29, 2018.
